What are different types of Dental insurances or Dental coverage's?
There are several different types of dental insurances. Dental Insurances can be complex. Some insurances require you to choose a primary care dentist. Some insurances require to choose dentists within a network. Here are some of the common dental plans:
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
PPO plans use a network of dentists who get paid by set fee schedule. This fee schedule is known as the contracted fee schedule. Procedures that are covered by these plans vary. You can sometimes see dentists not in the PPO network but that may cost more to you. Selecting a primary care dentist is not required.
PPO plans also typically have a deductible and a percentage that you have to pay for certain procedures. Some procedures such as cleanings, exams and routing x-rays might be covered by the plan completely.
Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO)
Dental HMO or DHMO plans pay contracted dentists a certain amount for each patient. There is generally no deductible or annual maximum for covered services. However, you are required to select a primary care dentist and typically cannot go to any dentist thus limiting your choices.
In house dental membership:
Some dentists offer an in office dental membership. These are not typical insurance plans but you can get services at a discount. In addition, some procedures like cleanings and x-rays might be discounted. However, these plans vary greatly as every dentist can tailor the plan accordingly.
